Web IRC client

For the occasional IRC users, a web client would be easier to use than setting up a software to connect to the channel. https://kiwiirc.com/ is quite nice and easy to embed in a website.

"Suggest Replacement" instead of "Report"

We just had a discussion on IRC about the report button. I believe it's rather annoying as it is - for both, uploaders and moderators. One reports an image and the moderator needs to decide if the current image is good enough or if there is real potential for improvement. That doesn't always work. M...

Search bar behaviour

I think the search bar could be much more useful with a couple of tweaks. As it is now, a search with no section specified defaults to movie results. It would be much more comfortable (i.e. fewer clicks) if it showed the top matches in all categories. I also don't like how it keeps going back to the...

Scanner recommendations

I'm thinking about getting a new scanner. I've gotten decent results with my old one so far, but I think there is room for improvement. Are there any affordable models out there that have a flush scan bed? It would make scanning 12'' vinyl record covers so much easier. A recessed scan bed makes posi...

Re: Need some advice

I haven't been looking that hard. I stumbled upon NeatImage when I was looking for a descreening filter and it turned out to be quite useful :)

Re: Need some advice

http://www.descreen.net/ has a descreening plugin for Photoshop. The demo version (up to 2000x2000px) is free. Neat Image is great for noise reduction and overall smoothing. The free demo works for images up to 1000x1000px. It's a powerful tool, but easy to overuse.. It can be used for descreening a...

Re: Getting moire pattern in scans

Ha! I just got it working using a Gimp build from http://www.partha.com/, which comes with the FFT plugin. For some reason the one I installed manually never showed up in the menu. The script is pretty neat.. It does the Fourier transformation much faster than G'MIC, which is a huge plus for me. Als...

Re: Getting moire pattern in scans

I really need to get the descreen filter to work. sure would make my life easier. :) Some of the results I've been getting so far are really spectacular, check this one out: descreen.png Unfortunately the same image has very strong artifacts: artifacts.png Sometimes I got the best results by not bla...

Re: Getting moire pattern in scans

Here's a video that shows how to descreen a printed image using any fourier transformation plugin: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/3137dDa6P4s?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I'm getting mixed results with this method. Sometimes it works really well, ot...

Re: Preferred way to replace your own already accepted image

Ideally we would have one image for every release (if there are no alternate covers), so using the report button sure is the way to go. The question is: how can the moderator judge if the user has a better image at hand without seeing it first? It may be hard to see issues without having a better ve...
