HOWTO: Add album to the database

Post by zorensen »

Lately I've been asked by a few members on how to add albums to the database on fanart.tv or some has uploaded their album cover to the wrong title, because they didn't find the correct one in the database. I've decided to make a little step-by-step tutorial on how you can add the album to the site with just a few clicks;

1) You have your album cover art, but when you click the "Upload" button the artists page you can't find the release you've just made an amazing cover for. Frustrating, right? Well, it's really easy. First of all, double check that you didn't miss the title in the list. If it's still not there, open up a new tab/window in your browser and visit http://www.musicbrainz.org.

2) Search for the artist you need to add a album for. You'll find the search form in the upper right corner;

In this example I'm using the queen of Barbados, Rihanna. After you've searched you will be taken to the results. Click on the correct artist you are looking for like in the image beneath;

3) Hey look! Now you see the artist information on MusicBrainz. After some general information you see a list under "Albums". This is what you looking for. Click on the album title you want to add to fanart.tv.

4) Now you're looking at the albums details. At the top you have different tabs.

Click on the one named "Details". Here you got 5 different lines, and the one you need is the line with "MBID". Copy this code looking like this; 1ab3ba95-bc96-46f4-bc6d-1e57bc6ad1a0 (This code is in this example is for Rihannas "Unapologetic").

5) Paste this code into the "Add album" form on fanart.tv and click the "Add" button. If the MBID is correct it will add this album to our database, and you'll be able to upload your amazing album coverart to the correct release ;)

Follow this guide and you'll be adding releases to the database in notime.

Nice guide, but it didn't work for me...

Searched 10cc
Found Live in Concert, Volume Two
Got the Id for the album: 41314a1c-64e1-4c7f-97bf-0c13243f1f9a
Pasted it in the box and pressed ADD
Was told 'Not a valid release group id'

There must be something missing here ?

is the mbid of the release group
https://musicbrainz.org/release/41314a1 ... 9a/details
is the mbid of the album
always use the release group id not the album id

leepenny beat me to it ;)

He's absolutely right. Use the release group ID, and not the album ID. Now he has added the album for you, but in the future just make sure to have the release group ID and it will work just fine to add new albums to the database if it isn't already there ;)
