Having your monitor levels set properly can really help with the quality of your work, and can also help prevent unnecessary denials. There are a few online tools that can help you quickly calibrate your monitor.

You may be asked by a moderator to calibrate your display if your submissions are consistently out of level balance, or you can't see what a moderator is referring to in a denial.

This is a great test image to see if you can notice the black level problem on your monitor. If you can't notice it, you most certainly need to adjust your monitor. In the worst case, you may need to replace your monitor. (Just ask schimi2k)
