a little help with calibration.

Post by shevman »

tip for photoshop, but I think other graphics editors also have it (brightness, gamma)

Note: This is not a 100% calibration your monitor, but it method works well for checking your images.

At first glance, these posters look great on uncalibrated monitor, but in fact, each of them has flaws.

Code: Select all

So, people with a good monitor will see all the flaws without any problems. All these posters need either small adjustments to the white/black level or cleaning or find a better quality. If you are not able to see these flaws on your uncalibrated monitor, you can use one trick in your graphics editor and you will be able to see these flaws.

Here's a little trick:
  • If you reduce the brightness, you will be able to see defects in the white levels.
  • Code: Select all

    video- reduce the brightness

  • If you increase the gamma, you will be able to see defects in the black levels.
  • Code: Select all

    video- increase the gamma

***********************************

With these two parameters (brightness, gamma), you can achieve good results and get a little good template for checking your images. This will be a kind of monitor calibration. :)

For example, here is my template as a calibration on one of my laptops on an uncalibrated monitor: :D
  • Code: Select all

    video-

  • as a test, I took the image here:
  • Code: Select all

    http://kalibrovka-monitora.com/assets/images/photos/25-test-kalibrovki-monitora/oboi_dlya_kalibrovki_monitora_8.png
  • and adjusted the brightness (-53) and gamma (1.33 with opacity 30%) until I could see faint white/black numbers and squares.
Of course, the best result will be if you calibrate the monitor with a special calibrator or by specialists (or throw the old monitor out and buy a new one :P ), but everyone has different reasons for this, so this method is the easiest and optimal.

I hope this helps you, good luck to all! ;)
Unfortunately, I had to limit myself to text instead of links. :? Sorry!

I've read the post. I just tried to adjust my monitor settings but it sucked. My graphics card and monitor are quite old. So I decided to proceed with the PS settings. :)

This is one of several reasons why I made this post to use at least the graphic editor program.
The second reason is: even after calibration from a specialist, he told me that it is impossible to fully calibrate the white dot, since the monitor matrix is poor (on a laptop). After that, I was in shock. :? And I looked for another way and found a workaround using only the graphic editor program. :D
