Cheesegeezer wrote:Yeah you can run this along side xbmc without it affecting your XBMC setup, they will work independently, there is also an xbmc addon which you can use also which proves MB and XBMC WORK together. http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=178180 Xnappo has created this for the XBMC community and us.

I've numbered your questions above

1. No it wont overwrite anything in your folders, it may add artwork to your folders
2. Yes, nfo are supported
3. Yes, it recognises those extra fanart folders also.

Ok, ready for your next question :D

Awesome!!

err..Somehow I feel like this is too easy for you. ;)

So I understand this is server based and accessed via "clients".
  • Is this Linux release both a server and a client?
  • (I ask as from my previous question, I can't use mixed content in XBMC, so the XBMC client wouldn't be much different for me.)

Also,
I've heard that mono can be pretty sluggish. Being compared a lot to languages like java.
  • Has anyone that has tried it so far had any issues with speed or choppiness?
  • Is there any plans in the future to make it native?

Lastly (for now), I wanted to ask about remote control. Since I use Linux, my remote is Lirc based.
  • Is this supported?

I hope I wasn't too rough. The good cop should be back any time from his coffee break. ;)

I'm gonna wait for the good cop to come back!! hahahaha ;)

I'm completely out of my comfort zone now with Linux/mono. So I'm not going to lie to you, however I will find out this information for you and post back with some solid information.

So I'm back with some information for you from guys that know what they are talking about when it comes to this OS.

As far as it stands at the moment, there is no plans for a Linux/Mono Client. However I dare say that someone will pick this up. If you are involved in the Mono/Linux Dev world by anymeans, maybe you would like to point someone you know to MB. ;)

The mono server will perform very well, perhaps just as well because the performance critical operations are all handled by native libraries built for their platforms - ffmpeg, sqlite, etc. What may effect performance is how people choose to run it. If people try to run the server on their key chain or a dinky vm with very limited resources, then there will be an impact there.

As far as the remote goes, we're only talking about the server here. This has nothing to do with what clients you use.

Lol, we just sent him on vacation :D

Ack!
Well I guess I'll need to stand by for a while then. I understand that getting the server ported is the most important thing to support Linux. Once it "hits the streets" I tend to agree that someone will create a nice *nix client for it.
I will still keep my finger on the pulse of this project to see how it develops though. Thank you very much for fielding the hardballs I sent your way. I hope you recover soon. :D

no problems with it... but why should i pay for stuff, when i can get it for free ???
we spend also a LOT of time to make all this stuff and we make it for the COMMUNITY FOR FREE !

and when i see, that they use also "our" stuff, i wont pay anyway for a skin or something

onderful!! (This is a huge plus for me)

Of course it would be symlinks in my case on Linux. :P

Next ..*ehem*...question

Would I be able to try this out along side XBMC without worrying about data loss?

1. Does it write/overwrite anything in the data folders?
2. Does it support nfo files already there?
3. Will it use existing art?
This kinda stuff. :P
