Clearart and Logo for Advanced Launcher (Games, Comics etc)

Post by BUZNIAK »

I'm trying to get thisi idea up and running for Advanced Launcher, already spoke to MQ and the developer of Advanced Launcher. I was wondering if you guys and girls have the capacity and bandwidth to handle a couple more Genres/Types of Artwork, specifically GAMES.

Please tell me what you think, I have already had some enthusiastic replies on the XBMC forums about this idea, if you could inform me of the tangibility of this situation/idea.

Here are some samples i came up with for Clearart and Posters for Advanced Launcher

It's been requested in the past and I did look into it, unfortunately there wasn't a reliable 3rd party database we could match against, I was going to hook into http://thegamesdb.net/ api but unfortunately it was incompatible with the way we would need the data to make it viable.

Basically we would need a game to have a unique id which could then have variations, so say a game was called "Super Game", it would have a unique id of 12345 and it might have variations for "xbox", "snes", "gameboy", unfortunately thegamesdb doesn't (didn't) do that, the xbox one was a unique id, the snes one was a unique id, so there was no way for us to reliably match and store them.

I don't know if the situation has changed, or if there is another database we could use, and I am certainly open to ideas, but unless we can find a solution to that it's probably not going to be possible.

Yeah that certainly is a pity, and indeed a difficult one, Advanced Launcher seem to work well with game and comic scrapers though.
Even a option for local art would be great, if it's not possible to categorize multi-platform games. I'm sure if this option were available then most likely some one would take up the challenge to collect, sort and archive these types of images.

TheGamesDB does do that here's a example, SYSTEM SHOCK 2.......
(PC) http://thegamesdb.net/game/4174/
(Dreamcast) http://thegamesdb.net/game/4175/

BF4......
(PC) http://thegamesdb.net/game/16691/
(Xbox 360) http://thegamesdb.net/game/17414/
(PS3) http://thegamesdb.net/game/18162/
(Xbox One) http://thegamesdb.net/game/18163/
(PS4) http://thegamesdb.net/game/18164/

Thanks for your reply.

Yeah, my point is the clearlogo for Bioshock would be the same regardless of what it was for, we don't want 5 entries with exactly the same logo

Ahh! Yeah I understand now.
Don't you have a report/duplicate button on FanArt.Tv?
Mods there seem to do a pretty good job of keeping things in order.
Expand your horizons, this would be a massive task no doubt, there has to be some way for this to work.

Here's a idea, Poster may be platform categorized, clearart, logo, banner and landscape should be categorized by the Title (no platform sorting)

Thanks for your reply again, I wish there was more input from the community now, but its early days.
Lets hope this doesn't fall apart like it did before.

Heh, I'm not sure you do understand now. We would HAVE to have 5 entries for a single logo, otherwise you wouldn't be able to find the logo whih isn't really compatible with how we do things. There may be a way to work around it but it would be a lot of extra coding, the ideal situation would be to find a data source that we could use. I'll have a think about it, but it would depend if we had mods that wanted to support the category and contributors what would be willing to create them.

Yes I do understand, Extra coding, if it's needed should be done. This condescending reply stating that i don't understand is just plain rude.
I said maybe, you could have (Posters be platform categorized, clearart, logo, banner and landscape should be categorized by the Title (no platform sorting))

So you have PS4, PS3, PS2, PS, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One etc etc POSTERS categorized (labeled under Platform) and Clearart, Logo and other art just under Title.
So you can have a bunch of posters under just a battlefield 4 page, when scraping people must choose the correct platformed titled poster. That is all.

Battlefield 4
-PS4, poster
-PS3, poster
-Xbox 360, poster
--------------------
Clearart, Logo, banner, landscape in the Battlefield 4 page as well, because game art won't differ for platform to platform, but Posters will.

So one page assigned to (game) with platform category just with posters, under one page. Updates take work, I just wish i had some coding knowledge so i could show you the concept in my head, which may or may not work in practice.

HERE'S another Photoshop Example, as you can see the only arts that need to be modified are the DISC and POSTER.

*sigh* I wasn't being condescending, I'm still pretty sure you dont understand the issue.

Take a look at this url http://fanart.tv/series/75682/bones/ the *only* thing important about that url is the id, thats how the site works, it needs an id to base everything around, in your examples there would be no base id to consistently use, making it very difficult to build anything. We don't maintain a seperate database of id's, our id's all come from a 3rd party.

In any case, your attitude in your last reply has evaporated any willingness on my part to look into it, so unless theres a lot of support for this from others (so far you seem to be the only one that wants it) it's not going to happen any time soon.
